INTERNATIONAL RECREATION NIGHT
OSU international students, scholars, employees and their families are
invited to a free night of activities at the OSU Recreation and Physical
Activity Center, 337 W. 17th Ave. The event will take place on Friday,
June 16th from 7-9:45 p.m. Those attending the event will be able to
enjoy basketball, badminton, table tennis, swimming, volleyball, racquet
ball, board games, and more! The whole RPAC center will be open at no
cost. Bring a towel, lock for lockers, board games, swimsuit, and your
Buck ID. For parking near the center, from OIE take Neil Ave. north and
turn left onto the driveway between Lazenby and Campbell Halls. This
will take you to the parking garage adjacent to the RPAC. (Follow the
sidewalk by the garage entrance along the building to the RPAC
entrance.) For more information, contact Melissa at ochal.2@osu.edu.
INTERNATIONAL SCHOLAR SUMMER ENGLISH CONVERSATION GROUP MEETINGS
International faculty, scholars, and employees are invited to join
other international faculty and scholars and OIE staff on the following
dates for lunch and conversation. We'll meet from 12-1 at Marketplace
to enjoy food and talk. (Spouses are also welcome.) This is a good
opportunity to practice English conversation and to meet new people.
Marketplace is located at the corner of Neil and 10th Avenues, on the
first floor of the William A. Hall Student Residential Complex. Enter
the restaurant seating area, and curve around to the left. We will be
meeting in room 118, which is located in the left hand corner of the
seating area. Just beyond the seating area is a food court where you
can buy coffee, salads, sandwiches, sushi, pasta, as well as snacks like
fruit or chips.
We will be meeting on the last Monday of June, July, August, and
September. (June 26, July 31, August 28, and September 25.) Contact
Sue Dollinger (dollinger.2@osu.edu) with any questions.
SHOWING OF WORLD CUP MATCHES
The Drexel Gateway Theater will show select World Cup soccer matches
beginning Sunday, June 11. See the games for free on a big theater
screen, and on multiple screens in the theater's bar and cafe. Games
will be shown through the Final on July 9. Go to
http://www.gatewaytheater.com for dates and times of matches and for
directions to the theater, which is located off High Street just south
of the OSU campus. For more information call (614) 545-2255, ext. 5.
ROSE FESTIVAL
The Whetstone Park of Roses will hold the annual Rose Festival on
Saturday, June 10 and Sunday, June 11. The festival includes viewing of
hundreds of varieties of roses, as well as music and animals from the
Columbus Zoo. The roses should be in bloom for several weeks after the
festival. To get to the park (which also includes tennis courts, soccer
and baseball fields, picnic areas, and a playground) go north on North
High Street from OSU. At the park entrance, turn left on Hollenback,
which is the 4th traffic light north of North Broadway. Go down the
hill to the lower area of the park where the gardens are located.
COMPUTER FRAUD
The OSU Office of Information Technology cautions the OSU community to
beware of the illegal e-mail scam known as "phishing" to avoid
becoming a victim of identity theft. Phishing happens every time you
receive an e-mail message that appears to be from a bank or other
business such as Ebay, Paypal, and the like, and the message urges you
to go to a Web site where confidential information such as your account
number and Social Security number is requested. Do not respond to the
e-mail, nor fill in any information on the Web site. Legitimate
businesses would never seek personal information in this manner. For
more information see
http://cio.osu.edu/communications/community/2006/phishing.html
