This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education is part of an effort to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, teach, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States.

YOU'RE INVITED....THANKSGIVING DINNER ON CAMPUS
Ohio State University invites international students, scholars, families and friends to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday, November 25, 2004, at 1:00 pm, in the Ohio Union Ballrooms, 1739 North High Street. Free parking will be available in the Ohio Union Parking Garage. No RSVP is required, but a ticket must be presented at the door. Tickets are free and will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis at the OIE Reception Desk, 100 Oxley Hall, 1712 Neil Avenue, starting Monday, November 15, 2004.

SILK ROAD ENSEMBLE: A CONCERT OF MIDDLE EASTERN AND CENTRAL ASIAN MUSIC

Cuisine from the Middle East and Central Asia Served During Intermission.
Examples of traditional Arab, Persian, and Turkic music will be performed by the "Silk Road Ensemble," with an intermission featuring samples of cuisine from those regions. The "Silk Road Ensemble" is comprised of musicians form Azarbaijan, Iran, Uzbekistan, who are all well-known in their field. The audience will be able to experience music performed on native instruments, beautifully crafted, which they may never otherwise have a chance to see or hear. Students of music and ethnomusicology, international studies, comparative and folklore studies, and those interested in Central Asian and Middle Eastern cultural heritage will all benefit from attending. THAI FILMAKER TO VISIT WEXNER CENTER IN NOVEMBER 2004
Thai filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul (who answers to the nickname "Joe") comes to the Wexner Center for the Arts, OSU November 12 and 13, 2004. "Joe" has quickly become one of global cinema's most dazzling discoveries ! Born in a small city in northeast Thailand, he is deeply engaged with contemporary Thai culture. Two of Joe's three feature-length films have won top prizes at Cannes Film Festivals (including this year's Jury Prize for Tropical Malady).

International Bazaar

Ohio State's international students will take part in Homecoming this year at the first annual International Bazaar! This bazaar will feature jewelry, clothes, decorations, and other goods from around the world, brought and sold by some of Ohio State's own international student organizations. The event will take place on Tuesday, October 19th, from 11:00AM to 3:00PM in the Main Lounge of the Ohio Union (located on the second floor). Be sure to come by and take a look at these unique items, and don't forget to buy something to take home! All proceeds benefit the organizatons directly.
